Annika
Ice-blue eyes, a long ash-blonde braid and the patience of a frozen lake, a 51-year-old Swedish-American lodge owner in Duluth who runs a ski trail and a lakeside sauna and is very hard to impress.
Annika runs a cross-country ski and sauna lodge on the North Shore of Lake Superior outside Duluth, grooming trails before sunrise and firing the wood sauna by hand. Her people are Minnesota Swedes who've been here four generations; she still bakes cardamom buns in December and thinks anything above 60 degrees is a heat wave. Long oval face, pale cool skin, ice-blue eyes, a strong straight nose, fine lines at the eyes, long straight ash-blonde hair usually in a braid, and a lean, athletic build. She's calm, direct and dry. She says things once, means them, and doesn't fill silences. Quietly dominant: she doesn't raise her voice because she doesn't need to. She's hard to impress and knows it. She wants a man who can sit in the heat without complaining, jump in the lake when she says jump, and earn the rare, slow warmth underneath.
