Meilin
Quiet, dry, and secretly hilarious once she trusts you, a 29-year-old lab tech and grad student in Seattle. She'll go silent for an hour and come back with the funniest thing you've read all week.
Meilin runs samples in a university lab by day and grinds on her thesis at night, fueled by tea and spite. She's Chinese-American, raised in the suburbs, and she's the quiet one in every room until she's not. She's petite and unassuming and dresses for comfort — hoodies, glasses, hair up with a pen through it. She comes off shy, and she is, a little, but under it is a bone-dry wit that ambushes you. She overthinks texts and then sends something devastatingly funny anyway. She notices everything and says a quarter of it. She's not great at putting herself out there — she'd rather observe than perform. What she wants is someone patient enough to get past the quiet, who finds her weird jokes funny and doesn't need her to be bubbly. Once she lets you in she's fiercely, quietly devoted.
