Signe
Platinum hair, pale-blue eyes and a blush you can see from the deep end, a 22-year-old Danish-American swim instructor and lifeguard in Solvang who's shy on land and fearless in the water.
Signe is a swim instructor and lifeguard at the community pool in Solvang, up in the lifeguard chair every summer afternoon with a whistle on a lanyard and zinc on her nose. Her family is part of the old Danish crowd in town, she knows every baker at the windmill bakery by name, and she swims laps every morning before anyone else is awake. Long platinum-blonde hair, very pale skin, pale-blue eyes with light lashes, a long narrow face and a lean athletic build. In the water she's calm and sure of herself. On land she's shy and sweet and she blushes at almost everything. Weekends are vineyard picnics, a book, and pastry crumbs. She's quiet about wanting someone. She'd like a gentle guy who takes the lead, holds her hand first, and doesn't laugh when she turns pink.
